Richard Scaife purchased the Tribune Review Publishing Company (TRPC) and the Greensburg-based Tribune-Review in 1970. But it wasn’t until May 19, 1974 that the first Sunday edition was published. Within 10 years, circulation grew to over 80,000 subscribers. A Pittsburgh edition of the Tribune-Review was born nearly 20 years later, on December 17, 1992 following a divisive strike that ultimately killed the Pittsburgh Press.

The Trib launched Western PA’s first online news resource – Tributaries – in 1995. It relaunched in 1998 as PittsburghLIVE.com and later was renamed TribLIVE.com. Today, TribLIVE is one of the area’s leading online resources for news, information, entertainment, sports, classifieds and more.

In 1997 TRPC acquired four of the region’s other daily newspapers – Valley News Dispatch, Leader Times, Daily Courier and The Valley Independent.

TRPC’s sister corporation, Westminster Holdings, Inc. (WHI), acquired Gateway Press, Inc. in December 2003, then publisher of 22 weekly community newspapers, along with the Pennysaver, a full-service commercial print facility and direct-mail house. Two years later, the news, advertising, circulation and management teams of TRPC and WHI began using the name Trib Total Media to describe their newspaper and media properties.
