Founded in 1981 as the importer and distributor Flying Foods International, Gourmet Garage supplied the best restaurants and chefs in New York and other major cities with their most essential ingredients. Years later we opened our first retail location, an ex-garage on Wooster Street in SoHo (hence the name). We opened just for chefs and restaurant buyers in the morning and everyone else in the afternoon, making sure all New Yorkers had access to the same high-quality, ingredients.

With three Manhattan locations, Gourmet Garage is a specialty supermarket known for its unique and fresh prepared foods. In its early days, it catered to a demanding clientele of chefs seeking exciting, unexpected products. And while it has since transitioned to a traditional retail model, you’ll still feel like you’re “shopping like a chef” at Gourmet Garage. “Shop Like a Chef!“ we declared, and we supplied our customers with the freshest fruit and vegetables, just-caught seafood, beautifully marbled meats, and the best and most diverse groceries available. Now every kitchen in New York contained the same exceptional ingredients that Gotham’s leading gastronomic legends enjoyed. Gourmet Garage has since expanded to three convenient locations, with a new location in the West Village. Each store offers our trademark organic produce, high-quality meat and seafood, signature soups, artisan baked local bread and pastries, and specialty olive oils as well as friendly knowledgeable customer service, and delicious chef-prepared meals to go.
