The Oregon Observer, WI
Established in 1880, the Oregon Observer serves the Oregon School District, which comprises the village of Oregon (population 10,170) and the neighboring communities Brooklyn and towns of Oregon, Dunn, Rutland and Brooklyn, as well as the southern portion of the city of Fitchburg.
A quaint commuter village, Oregon is located about seven miles south of Madison, Wis. It was founded in 1841 as a transportation crossroads and quickly became a rail and agricultural center in Dane County. The village of Oregon was the first in the nation to erect a World War I monument, which is located downtown.
In 1998, the Observer became part of Unified Newspaper Group, a division of Woodward Communications, which also published the Fitchburg Star, Oregon Observer, Verona Press, Your Family magazine and the Great Dane shopper. In 2021, O'Rourke Media Group purchased UNG, adding to its Wisconsin Media Group publications based in Kiel.
