Yorkton This Week SK

The Yorkton This Week is a weekly newspaper operating out of Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

The Yorkton This Week began its over 100-year tenancy in Yorkton in 1896 when J. Peaker started the fledgling paper. Peaker had gained his newspaper experience in his home shire of Broadacres, England.

The type-printed paper was produced in a former Methodist Church located on Third Avenue. And while it was a place to put together the early editions of The Yorkton Enterprise it wasn't much more.

The first issue came out late on Saturday night, the new venture being called the Yorkton Enterprise. All day long on Saturday crowds of people thronged the publishing office anxiously enquiring when the first issue would be ready to be given out.

The Enterprise experienced a number of decades of stability with the only major changes being a change of location in 1909 and again in 1930 and two short-lived competitors, The Times and The Press.

Then the newspaper was sold again in 1968 when the Thompson Newspaper Co. took over operations.

Then in 1975 there was competition once more, with the arrival of Yorkton this Week operated by Eddie Betker, Dick DeRyk and Bob Thom.

The two papers The Enterprise and Yorkton This Week competed for over 15 years until Armadale Company Ltd. bought out both papers in 1990, amalgamating them into Yorkton This Week & Enterprise.

Then in December 1995 Yorkton This Week & Enterprise, along with the other papers in the Armadale chain, was sold to Hollinger Ltd.

The Estevan Mercury purchased and renamed the paper Yorkton This Week in 2001.

In 2004, Glacier Media, an information and communication company acquired the Boundary Group of Newspaper which included Yorkton This Week.
