Port Orchard Independent WA

The Port Orchard Independent was founded in August of 1890, absorbing two other local newspapers: The Broad Ax in 1891 and the Kitsap County Pioneer in 1893. Just as it has for the last 100 years, today’s Independent continues to provide the South Kitsap area with relevant and timely news and reaches 18,232 households weekly. Already the home of county government, Port Orchard has been on a growth spurt in recent years with aggressive annexation initiatives in its goal of becoming the largest city in the county. Port Orchard is home to Washington State’s largest high school and prides itself on its quality of local education provided by the South Kitsap School District.  Featuring several festivals throughout the year, Port Orchard and surrounding communities are a popular tourist destination.
