Cranston Herald RI
A weekly newspaper in Rhode Island, the Cranston Herald is the only source of all-local news for residents, covering everything that happens from City Hall to Cranston Stadium. Founded in 1922, the Herald was, for many years, run by Rosalie Frost, a former Rockette who in the 1930s became a groundbreaking female journalist. She sold the paper to Beacon Communications around 1973, after the company had started a competing weekly, Cranston Today. The papers have since merged under the Herald name. Today's Herald is a paid-subscription publication that comes out on Wednesdays, under the direction of Editor Meg Fraser. Beacon Communications is also the publisher of the Warwick Beacon and Johnston Sun Rise newspapers, and is in charge of a coalition of publications called the Rhode Island Newspaper Group.
