The Daily Advertiser Wagga Wagga Australia
For more than 150 years, The Daily Advertiser has been trusted by readers right across the Riverina to deliver the news that matters. From humble beginnings, The Daily Advertiser has evolved into a multi-platform masthead at the cutting edge of digital media.Pastoralists Auber George Jones and Thomas Darlow founded the paper, initially a bi-weekly known as The Wagga Wagga Advertiser, on Wiradjuri land in 1868.The duo, together with founding editor Frank Hutchison, wanted the paper to advocate fiercely for a “district far removed from the great centres of population, and from the seat of government”.While much has changed in the years since the four-page first edition rolled off the presses and hit the streets for a sixpence, that central purpose remains. In fact, it is more important than ever that governments, at both state and federal level, are held to account and residents have a strong, independent media outlet to advocate on their behalf. But The Daily Advertiser is not just about bringing readers news and views on the biggest issues of the day.The masthead also plays a vital role in celebrating the triumphs and documenting the tragedies that have left an indelible impression on the Riverina and its people.Wagga is already the largest inland city in NSW, but its population is tipped to grow rapidly to 100,000 by 2040.This growth is fuelled by an increasingly diverse array of industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, education and healthcare.Wagga is proud to be the home of the Army Recruit Training Centre Kapooka and Royal Australian Air Force Base Wagga, as well as a Charles Sturt University campus, the National Art Glass Gallery and the Riverina Conservatorium of Music. It is a great privilege to be the trusted voice of news in such a dynamic and diverse region.
