Explore Charleston has been at the forefront of tourism marketing since the 1930s.

Originally, we were part of the first municipal Chamber of Commerce in America, located on Broad Street. As our community expanded, we opened one of the nation’s first Visitors Centers at 85 Calhoun Street, supporting the country’s first Tourism Management Plan. Officially formed in 1985 as a standalone organization known as the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, we have grown to serve the entire region. When the City of North Charleston was incorporated in 1972, we took the lead in promoting business and corporate travel to support our hotel partners. We have proudly served each of our 12 governmental areas as our community has continued to grow.

We believe our home is a place where opportunities are born - opportunities to grow, learn, contribute, build community, and foster a diverse economy. We are dedicated to uniting the area’s passionate hospitality professionals, as each of us plays a vital role in making our region a beloved place to live and a top destination.
