Each year laws are passed, regulations written, and building codes amended—changes that have a direct impact on how architects can do business in California. AIA California Government Relations Program is the voice of the architectural profession in California’s State Capitol, Sacramento—operating on behalf of the profession in three main areas:

• Legislative Advocacy – sponsoring legislation critical to the profession’s interests, and actively monitor other legislation affecting the profession’s well-being.
• Regulatory Advocacy – representing architects before regulatory bodies that impact the practice of architecture and promoting issues such as: energy efficient design principles; improvements to the State procurement process; and unified design and construction authorities within the Executive Office.
• Code Advocacy – championing sensible, workable building codes that give design professionals flexibility and certainty while protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public.

In addition, we support components in cities throughout California with local advocacy efforts.
