Lide a Zeme is a free-spirited weekly. It was created during the revolution and is in itself a celebration of freedom. It is here for people who need freedom for their lives. And it is also a weekly magazine of interesting journalistic personalities and notable authors, a weekly with a sense of beauty, which at the same time is looking for the raw truth about things around us.

Twenty years ago, the first editor-in-chief, Petr Hájek, could not have come up with a better name for the weekly, which wanted to be a reflection and driver of social events. He succeeded in that word. It expresses exactly what this is about.

At various times in those twenty years, Lide a Zeme was necessarily somewhat different. It changed as time changed and so did the stimuli for reflection.
However, Lide a Zeme does not change in certain basic principles. It's Lide a Zeme.

Lide a Zeme tries to reveal stylization and pretense. That's why it was never a mainstream magazine. He will always provoke and always be uncomfortable with someone. This is his contribution to freedom and to the discussion of serious and unserious things. Lide a Zeme is serious and unserious. But he always cares in the first place about what is essential, although often in a rather unserious form.

The most serious danger of this time is certainly repeated attempts to restrict freedom. Sometimes we get the impression that something has ended in the last twenty years, and it is as if some other regime is coming now that tightens the screws. Lide a Zeme is a kind of defensive reflex against such efforts, no matter where they come from. Left, right, east or west.

Lide a Zeme is a defensive reflection against the buranocracy, which in politics and culture revives the atmosphere of the unfree 1980s. Lide a Zeme has a memory. Lide a Zeme is also a defensive reflection against corruption and clientelism, which erode the state from within and discredit democracy as such in the eyes of the people. It is a civic attitude that can be succinctly expressed in the words: "We don't have to let everything like it." From this it is clear that Lide a Zeme is the opposite of immobility, apathy and resignation. Although it is such a bad time that Nečas may not help us either.
