Haiti Progres

Haïti-Progrès (HP) is a weekly founded in 1983 and based in the United States, at a difficult time in the country, under the dictatorship of Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier who was in his most fierce repressive mode. The resistance of the Haitian people needed an echo on the international scene, hence the birth of one of the oldest newspapers of the Haitian diaspora.

In addition to being the voice of the Haitian people, Haïti-Progrès also helped expose the plight of Haitian refugees, fleeing the Duvalier dictatorship and defying death at sea, in their quest for freedom. The United States continued its support of the dictatorship, adopting a policy that ignored the political situation and characterized the “Haitian boat people” as economic refugees. Haïti-Progrès, in collaboration and solidarity with progressive groups , has highlighted the struggle of the Haitian people in Haiti, the United States and throughout the diaspora. Led by a team of dedicated people, Haïti-Progrès is published in the United States in French, Creole, English and Spanish, covering Haitian and international news, as well as that affecting the Haitian diaspora. HP is distributed in the New York metropolitan area and across the United States.
