Freight traffic in our country is increasing, with more vans in addition to trucks. That does not please Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters, who is now ordering a study into, among other things, the extension of the kilometer charge for trucks to vans. The end of the 'camionettization' of transport and, provided a toll based on the ecological impact, also a greening? The (possible) introduction is not for the time being…

If it makes one thing clear, it is that the current situation with an extremely limited impact of taxation and the almost non-existent control on the use of vans could well be finite. Perhaps it is time to subject our fleet to a critical look and see where things can be done differently in order to better respond to the current economic situation and anticipate possible changes. Instead of 'one size fits all', a broader differentiation may be necessary, with different dimensions depending on the job, from (very) small to (very) large. And alternative drives for a number of applications, while diesel remains 'incontournable' for others? Time for customization.
