TRANSPORT & VAN IN BELGIUM

Honestly, who could have imagined a health crisis of such magnitude? Who could have imagined that an entire country would be under house arrest to stop the advance of a virus… and that the population would accept it willingly or unwillingly? But that is what happened, and it works, because at the time of writing, hopes of beating this damned virus have increased. Of course, we still have to wait for a vaccine to be found before we can start living “like before”, but little by little we have been able to leave the confinement.

This means that I am saying that we can also overcome the economic crisis that has begun. By further stimulating the entrepreneurial spirit that characterises the sector, but also by applying measures that we might never have thought of in normal times, by using unsuspected means, by being creative and innovative.

As Peter Vanden Houte (chief economist of ING Belgium) confirms, the transport sector will be one of the first to react once the economy picks up again. It confirms that Belgium has taken the right measures to support companies that have suffered economic damage as a result of the brutal economic crisis that started in March, but it also confronts each company with its own responsibilities. Will there be victims among the transport companies? Probably, but healthy branches of the sector always emerge stronger from the crisis. Hopefully that will be the case this time too.
