The Coaster
Founded in June 1983, The Coaster is a paid weekly tabloid newspaper based in Asbury Park, New Jersey, serving Asbury Park and a number of neighboring municipalities along the Jersey Shore.
It focuses on hyper-local journalism: covering town hall meetings, local government, business happenings, social news, school events, high-school and elementary-level sports, community events, and other neighborhood-level stories that often go unreported by larger daily newspapers.
The Coaster is known for its strong emphasis on photographic coverage — it reportedly offers more photo coverage of local events than any other weekly or free paper in the region (at a roughly 3:1 ratio).
The paper is distributed every Thursday: subscribers receive it by mail, and additional copies are available at newsstands and convenience stores.
