FM96.1, a multicultural radio station under Fairchild Media Group, one of the largest Chinese media organizations outside Asia, broadcasts 24/7 in Vancouver in over 20 languages, including Mandarin, Korean, Ukrainian, Polish, Filipino, Cambodian, Hungarian, Punjabi, Spanish, Italian, and even Russian and Vietnamese, with Mandarin broadcasting as the primary mode.

To cater to this large market and adapt to demographic changes over the past few decades, FM96.1 began broadcasting primarily in Cantonese on AM1470 in 1993; in 1997, it established FM96.1, focusing on Mandarin programming. To address the challenges posed by the rapid changes in the market in recent years, Canadian Chinese Radio will renew its FM96.1 channel license in 2026, while simultaneously returning the AM1470 license. Starting in March 2026, FM96.1 will broadcast in Cantonese, Mandarin, and other ethnic languages, providing over 100 hours of Chinese broadcasting per week.
